Text: 'La Reconquista'

‘La Reconquista’ was the process by which the Christian kingdoms reconquered

 the territories from Al-Andalus.

Christian kingdoms wanted to recover the Peninsula because....

lThey needed more space because the population was growing.

lThey wanted more lands for their economy, because most of the people were farmers.

lThey wanted to recover the Iberian Peninsula and Christianism to be the most important religion.

The first noble who defeated the Muslims was Don Pelayo. He won the battle of

Covadonga in 722AD, and founded the Kingdom of Asturias. He was the first king.

Little by little, Christians started to conquer the ‘Taifa kingdoms’.

Alfonso VI reconquered Toledo.

In 1212, the Christians won the battle of Navas de Tolosa.

Finally, Muslims only had the last Taifa kingdom: the kingdom of Granada.

The Muslims were expelled from the peninsula in 1492, when Middle Age finished.
